Announcing “Don’t Bring Me Down,” A Multimedia Art Show
I will be showing a short video with my friend Tim Thielen at the Austin Art Authority this week. I’ll post videos and photos after the show.

In a city known for live music and fashionable people, Rachel Fields and Christina Shaffell have created a first: A band put together purely for the sake of fashion. Don’t Bring Me Down the band is a female-fronted garage-rock four-piece overflowing with ‘60s style. Don’t Bring Me Down, the event is an art happening featuring fashion, photography, film and music.
On February 27th, designer Fields and photographer Shaffell present an evening of entertainment inspired by — and created for — the fictional band Don’t Bring Me Down. Fashion that takes its cues from bad-ass funk and 18th-century haute couture will be on display, along with photos and set-pieces from the group’s one and only photo shoot. Filmmakers Jacob Villanueva and Tim Thielen will present short films about the artistic process.
An event like this wouldn’t make sense without music. Local band Hailey Tuck & the Finn Brothers perform songs written especially for the event. Country/Rock trio Crooks will be closing out the evening’s festivities.
“In my life, music and fashion are inextricably linked,” explains designer Rachel Fields. “Don’t Bring Me Down captures the interplay between lifestyle, music and the artistic process.” Fields has been designing fashions for several years, and premiered several designs in last year’s Treasure City Thrift Fashion Show. Collaborator Christina Shaffell is an Austin-based photographer and designer. Her work can be seen in the most recent edition of the Screamer Company’s annual zine, Three.
